Find Kershaw County Released Inmates

Kershaw County released inmates may leave the live jail list even though a booking record, court case, or state corrections record still documents what happened. To search for Kershaw County released inmates, first identify whether the person left county detention, state prison, federal custody, or only moved to another agency. A Kershaw County released inmate search then follows the record held by that custody system. County departure records confirm local release or transfer, while state corrections, court, supervision, notification, and federal tools answer different parts of the same question. Kershaw County released inmates should be matched with dates and case details before any status is accepted.

Kershaw County Released Inmate Records

A release from Kershaw County Detention Center means that one local booking ended. It does not always mean the person walked into the community. Bond, a court order, dismissal, credit for time served, acquittal, or completion of a local sentence can end confinement. A transfer to the South Carolina Department of Corrections, another county, a hospital, federal custody, or immigration custody also closes the KCDC hold, but custody continues elsewhere. The release type and destination are therefore as important as the date and time.

KCDC records admission and physical departure. The court records the bond, order, charge outcome, or sentence behind that movement. SCDC records state-prison admission and discharge. The South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services records community supervision, while VINE relays status events reported by participating agencies. No single source replaces all the others. The best proof pairs the originating agency's record with the court or custody record that explains it.

Bonded out
Custody ended under bond conditions while the case continues.
Time served
The court credited enough confinement toward a sentence, subject to any other hold.
Parole
Conditional release from incarceration under Board authority, usually with supervision.
Transfer
One agency stopped holding the person because another agency took custody.

How Kershaw County Releases Work

Words in a Kershaw County release record carry distinct legal meanings. A person may leave on recognizance or paid bond while charges remain pending. A dismissal or acquittal resolves the cited charge, but another case or detainer may still prevent departure. Sentence satisfaction ends the custodial term involved, though a required supervision period may follow. A parole or supervised-reentry label means the person left prison under defined state controls rather than completing every part of the sentence without supervision.

A booking photograph records intake. It does not show present custody, guilt, case outcome, or release. Likewise, the date a court signed an order may differ from the time detention staff completed checks, resolved holds, returned property, and carried out the departure.

Note: Ask for both the release type and destination so a transfer is not mistaken for freedom.

Kershaw County Release Record Fields

A useful KCDC booking and release record should identify the person and tie the departure to one booking. Name alone may match more than one person. A date of birth or other lawful identifier, booking number, booking date, arresting agency, charge, bond data, and court number provide context. The release portion should state when KCDC stopped holding the person, why or under whose authority that happened, and which agency received the person if the event was a transfer.

FieldWhat it shows
Booking numberConnects the request to the correct detention episode.
Booking date and timeShows when KCDC recorded admission.
Charges and court numberConnects detention data with the correct judicial record.
Bond informationShows the bond type or terms recorded for that booking.
Actual release date and timeShows when KCDC processed the departure.
Release type or authorityDistinguishes bond, court order, time served, completion, or transfer.
Destination agencyShows continued custody when a transfer or detainer applies.
Booking photographDocuments intake, not current custody or release status.

Some fields may be withheld or redacted under law. A custodian must provide existing nonexempt records, but need not create a custom report that the agency does not maintain. Requesting the specific booking and its existing release fields is more precise than asking staff to research every person released during an arbitrary period.

Request Kershaw County Release Records

KCDC is operated by Kershaw County's Department of Safety and Emergency Services. Begin with the detention center or the Kershaw County FOIA channel for the jail's booking and release record. The county contact is Johnny Deal, 515 Walnut Street, Camden, SC 29020, telephone 803-425-6239, and johnny.deal@kershaw.sc.gov. The county form may be delivered, emailed, mailed, or placed in the Government Center drop box as its instructions allow.

  1. Give the full name, a lawful disambiguator, and the approximate booking date.
  2. Ask for the existing booking number, booking time, actual release date and time, release type or authority, and destination agency if recorded and public.
  3. Include associated charges, case numbers, and the booking photograph only when needed.
  4. Request electronic delivery and ask for an advance estimate if lawful fees will exceed a limit you state.
  5. Compare the result with the court case and any destination-custody record.

Under South Carolina FOIA Section 30-4-30, an agency generally gives its written determination within ten business days for records no more than 24 months old and twenty business days for older records. Those are response deadlines, not production deadlines. When access is granted, production generally follows within 30 calendar days, or 35 calendar days for older records. An agreed extension or deposit can affect that schedule. The agency may charge actual costs and require up to a 25 percent deposit.

Recent inspection: Records identifying people confined during the preceding three months must be available for in-person inspection without a written request under Section 30-4-30(D)(3).

Kershaw County Release Record Retention

Online display and government retention are different. Kershaw's current portal does not promise that a released booking remains visible for any set period. The underlying record can remain with the county after the name leaves the screen. South Carolina's May 2026 county schedule, CO-18-18, defines inmate records to include arrest, incarceration and release dates, how and by whom released, charges, the court or judge, bond, booking in and out, and property receipts. It requires those inmate records to be kept for ten years after release.

The same schedule treats the jail book under CO-18-22 as permanent. That book includes the name, offense, commitment, bond, releasing officer, date and method of release, and remarks. CO-18-25 allows mugshots to be kept until superseded or no longer needed. These retention duties do not promise public web access. They explain why a focused records request may succeed after a current roster no longer displays the person.

Kershaw County Bond Release Timing

The KCDC resource guide lists separate bond-hearing schedules in the detention-center lobby. City hearings are listed at 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.; county hearings at 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The guide marks the times as subject to change. It also distinguishes cash bond, paid in cash to the judge, from surety bond arranged through a bondsman.

A hearing time is not a promised gate time. Staff may still need the signed authority, identity checks, bond processing, review of other holds, property return, and an approved departure. A favorable bond decision can therefore occur before physical release. Call KCDC and ask whether the booking has actually closed. Then ask for the release time and destination rather than inferring departure from the hearing schedule.

Note: Verify the current hearing schedule directly because the published resource guide can change.

Kershaw County Expunged Release Records

Kershaw County is in the Fifth Judicial Circuit. The Fifth Circuit Solicitor's expungement route explains that qualifying dismissed, nol-prossed, or acquitted charges may remain visible until the legal expungement process is completed. It identifies possible SLED, Clerk, and Solicitor fees, with exceptions, and directs Kershaw applicants to the Camden office. Eligibility depends on the governing law and individual case; a missing online result is not enough to decide it.

Expungement is a lawful destruction or removal process, not proof that detention never occurred. Section 17-1-40 addresses qualifying arrest and booking records, including mugshots and fingerprints. It provides for sealed retention for three years and 120 days under stated exceptions before destruction. Sealing, expungement, juvenile confidentiality, and a filing lag can all limit public search results. Suppressed records should not be reconstructed from cached or unofficial copies.

Start with the custody level, then move from a live status check to durable proof. KCDC-only detention is different from a state sentence. Federal and immigration systems apply only when the case or transfer points there. The Kershaw County jail releases for 24 hours page explains the absence of a verified local release feed, while the steps below resolve one named person's status.

  1. Check the Kershaw current inmate list. A match supports current custody as of its update; no match does not prove release.
  2. Call KCDC at 803-425-1516. Ask separately whether the person is now held and whether the identified booking closed by community release or transfer.
  3. Search the Kershaw Public Index by party or case number for bond, dismissal, sentence, disposition, and filed orders.
  4. For state custody, use the SCDC incarcerated search while the person is held and the separate SCDC Released Inmate Search after discharge.
  5. Check SCDPPPS if parole, probation, community supervision, or supervised reentry is expected.
  6. Use VINE for a participating county status event, BOP for a federal sentence, or ICE ODLS for a documented immigration transfer.
  7. Request the existing booking and release record when web and phone checks do not settle the question.
Roster limit: A released person usually leaves the live jail list. Absence can also mean a variant name, recent data change, transfer, another facility, exclusion, or error.

Kershaw County Current Roster Limits

The county labels its Zuercher portal a Kershaw County inmate list. Its configuration is for today's current inmates and displays mugshot, name, race, sex, age, and arrest date. Public filters include name, race, sex, and arrest date, and hold reasons are enabled. No public release-date column, release filter, 24-hour list, 72-hour list, update schedule, or post-release display period was verified.

The difference matters. A roster match is evidence that KCDC still reports the person in custody at that reporting point. A missing name is only a clue. For an actual release, call Booking/Intake through the current menu and obtain the booking/release record. For a three-day range, ask whether an existing jail-management release report or individual records cover those dates. South Carolina FOIA does not require the county to create a new compilation.

Kershaw County Release Court Trail

Camden does not have a separate municipal-jail lookup. The city's community-facilities material says municipal prisoners are transferred to KCDC. Yet the underlying case may remain with Municipal Court. General Sessions handles felony and higher criminal matters, while Magistrate or Municipal Court may hold lower-level bond and case records. Use the arresting court and case number to choose the right clerk instead of assuming every KCDC booking belongs in one court index.

The Kershaw Public Index can show charges, filings, bond events, disposition, sentence, and available orders. The official search is shown below.

Kershaw County court case search for a released inmate record

The court record explains legal authority, but KCDC confirms when staff carried it out. The Clerk's current court-records page states $1 per page, $2 certification, and a nonrefundable $20 search fee for written requests, while another Clerk page shows different figures. Verify the price before ordering.

Kershaw County Release Alerts

SC VINE and VINELink can report a participating county detainee's custody status and send notice of a selected event. Search South Carolina, choose the relevant agency or facility, identify one person by name or available ID, and check matching details before registering. Telephone alerts use a four-digit PIN. Calls may continue for up to 48 hours or until the PIN is entered. Entering the PIN confirms receipt of the call, not the person's identity or final legal status.

State-prison victim notification has a separate route through SCDC Victim Services at 1-800-835-0304. A county VINE registration should not be assumed to cover an SCDC release or a parole hearing. After any alert, confirm the actual release type and destination with KCDC or the appropriate state agency. Data transmission may lag, and an agency-to-agency transfer can look like the end of one custody record.

Kershaw County Federal Release Checks

The Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator covers federal BOP custody, not KCDC or SCDC. Search with a federal register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number when known, or use name and biographical fields. For many former federal prisoners it displays Released and a release date. Not in BOP custody can mean release or another non-BOP circumstance, so read the help text and compare the federal court docket.

The captured locator is a federal-only route and should never be used for an ordinary KCDC booking.

The ICE Online Detainee Locator System applies when KCDC's record shows a transfer to immigration custody. It accepts an A-number and country of birth or the offered biographical method. It is mainly a current-location tool and does not display every detainee. A KCDC entry such as ICE hold or released to ICE describes continued custody unless ICE separately confirms community release. No federal prison or ICE detention center was verified inside Kershaw County.

Kershaw County Release Record Custody

The Kershaw County Sheriff's detention page makes a rare but vital distinction: KCDC is not under Sheriff's Office jurisdiction. Kershaw County's Department of Safety and Emergency Services operates it. Send a KCDC booking or departure request to KCDC or the county FOIA contact. Send a Sheriff-created arrest or incident record to KCSO. Routing every jail question to the Sheriff can delay the core record.

The Sheriff's separate FOIA process remains relevant only for material that KCSO created or holds. Its posted schedule and delivery methods should not be treated as KCDC's detention-record policy. Start with the originating custodian, specify an existing record, and ask the recipient to identify the right office if responsibilities overlap.

Note: Agency ownership follows who created and keeps the record, not the logo on a linked roster.

Kershaw County Release Facility

Kershaw County Detention Center is the only verified adult detention facility physically in the county that requires a facility page. It holds adults awaiting court, serving qualifying local sentences, or awaiting transfer. Community departures may follow bond, an order, dismissal, time served, or sentence completion. Transfers may lead to SCDC, another county, medical care, federal custody, or immigration custody.

Kershaw Correctional Institution is in Lancaster County despite its name and is not a Kershaw County facility. State-sentenced residents may be held at any SCDC institution, so statewide SCDC tools follow the person rather than county geography. No separate Camden municipal jail, adult SCDC prison, federal prison, or ICE detention center was verified in Kershaw County.
